Broken TV :(

Got home Thursday night from my recent trip to Boston to find that my living room TV has decided to stop working. No big deal, wasn't planning on sitting on the couch anyway. I'll pickup a new TV Friday, easy enough to fix.

Friday morning came around with a schedule of conference call which gave me time to find my new TV online. The winning selection a 32" Toshiba at HHGREG. I finalized my online transaction just prior to my last call of the morning starting so when the call ends I should be able to run down the street and pick it up as well as lunch (pot belly sandwich). I few minutes later I get my email confirmation about my purchase. As I read through the confirmation I get to this:

Pick-Up Details
You will receive an email notification within the next 72 hours to let you know when the item(s) you purchased are available for pick-up. When picking up your purchase at the store, you must present:

1. Order Number or printed copy of this email
2. Valid Photo ID (ex: Driver's License, Military ID, Passport, or Alien ID Card)
3. Credit Card used for the above purchase

72 hours! Why? The website made me check inventory at my local store...

After about an hour I decide to guy the store and request either they cancel my order or give me my TV. The guy who picked up told me that the website actually only checks the inventory of the warehouse that services my zipcode. The 72 is what is required to get something from the warehouse to the store. In my case they already have the product in the store so I can come pick it up. Ok problem resolved, I asked him to get one out and that I would be there in 10 minutes. After an unnecessarily long wait in the store TV is in my possession and lunch is next.

Question: what the proper way to throw away the old TV? Can I just put it on the curb on trash day?
